Some Days You Gotta Jump!

My son, like a lot of preschoolers, is always on the move.  This kid doesn’t walk anywhere.  He’d rather run, jump, skip, anything else but walk.  He’d much rather practice his large motor skills than is tiny fine motor ones.

This is not usually a problem during the warm summer months (or spring or fall), because we go outside a lot to practice those skills.  However, we haven’t been outside much in the really cold winter weather, especially with a new baby in the house.

One day last week J was bouncing off the walls, throwing toys, and otherwise reeking havoc in our house.  I knew he needed to get some of that built up energy out.  But, we were in the middle of a snow/ice storm.

So…I let him jump on the bed.  I don’t really mind bed jumping, but my husband does.  So, we don’t allow it.

But today I NEEDED him to jump!  (Sorry sweetie!).

Jumping on the bed, gross motor, large motor, play

I see jumping on the bed to be a great way to practice those large motor skills,

like balance.  Plus,

it’s a great mood lifter!

I am not usually one to allow J to break the rules, but I figured this was a special circumstance.

Or maybe I felt a bit like jumping too!

Hey sometimes you gotta join in on the fun!

I can’t wait to hear what my husband has to say about this!

So you tell me, are you pro or against jumping on the bed?

Come join the fun over on Facebook or Instagram (I just joined and LOVE it)

Love it! I only allow it if I am in the room too. My kids love jumping on the bed.

    – my husband saw a picture of my oldest and her friend jumping on the bed and he got really worried. I told him it has already happened and she didn’t get hurt. It is not something he would allow when alone with the kids but thankfully he accepts it with me and the kids.

Love, love these pictures! Especially J watching you!

I am pro-jumping – although I don’t encourage it, I don’t stop it when it happens. M jumps in his crib constantly while holding the side, and while Daddy gets nervous that he will fall off when he jumps on our bed, he is actually really good at it. He can’t get on our bed without help, so it is always supervised. And fun 😉 We have a toddler trampoline and that really helps with the snow days!

Hahaha! When I first saw the question, “Are you pro or against jumping on the bed?” my first thought was, “Depends on if they make room for me!” I’m 100% pro jumping on the bed and sliding down the stairs in sleeping bag ‘sleds’ and playing in the mud, etc. Life can be so beautiful if we let it!

HAA my teenager and his friends actually got a twin mattress and slid down the stairs with it. I guess they could be out doing worse things. I’ll take jumping at any age…any day!
