Preparing Toddlers for A New Baby: Reading Their Baby Book

I have two months until Baby Brother joins our family.  The thing that worries me the most about this new baby, is how J will adjust to the change in our family.  So, I’ve been spending time preparing him for what having a new baby in the family will be like.  So far  I’ve shared with you my first idea…playing and caring for baby dolls.

Today, I share with you my second idea…reading the baby book.  I had a reader share this idea with me, and I knew I had to do it with J.

Preparing for baby - Baby book, toddlers, siblings. new baby

Basically you pull out that baby book that you made for your child(ren) and read it with them.  If you don’t have a baby book, pictures and videos will work just as well.

When reading the book, I talk with J about how Baby Brother will look a lot like he did as a baby.  We talk about how the baby is born in the hospital, how small he is, and that he will cry, eat, and sleep a  lot.

We talk about how Mommy and Daddy will hold, feed, and need to care for Baby Brother just like we did for him when he was a baby.  It’s also great to show how babies grow over time and become more playful as they grow.

J’s baby book was digital so it is a good book for him to read both independently and with me.  He loves looking at his baby book and talking about Baby Brother.

Your baby book looks beautiful. How did you make it? Which digital baby book? Thanks.

I used a website called Mixbook to create it myself. Their prices are really good and they often have coupons and promotions.
