During the move, we found an old camera that we don’t use anymore. I immediately handed it over to J. Something in me knew that he would love to have a camera of his own to take pictures. Well, I had no idea it would be one of his all-time favorite toys…and that he’d practice some great skills too! Along the way he has taken some interesting pictures….
And some pretty good ones…
But, the best part for me was watching him figure out how to aim at a target and snap a picture. This was really difficult for him at first. He couldn’t keep the camera steady enough and he had some difficulty holding the camera up to his face and take the picture at the same time. I realized today that he capable of holding the camera steady while snapping away and his aim is so much better than before! Also, this turned out to be a great fine motor activity too. He loves to press all the buttons and turn the dial on the camera. Which really helps build those muscles in little fingers!
So, next time you have an old piece of technology (like a camera) hand it on over to your kid and see what happens!
I LOVE seeing what kids decide to photograph. It’s a great way to get inside their heads and really see what’s important to them.
When I worked in a photo lab, the majority of kids cameras had photos of their family, pets, and their toys. 🙂
It is really neat to see what they photograph! I love that he took a pic of his Thomas the Train pajamas…one if his favorite things!
I just love pictures taken from a little one’s point of view!!
My granddaughter loves taking pictures, too! I think she might be needing a new camera!
My 2.5 yo got a camera for his 2nd birthday, and it has been so much fun seeing the photos he takes. He’s getting much better! I even included a photo he took in today’s post – I had to make it black and white because whatever he did to the camera made the photo red. http://jennifischer.blogspot.com/2012/07/simple-sunday-storytelling-board-hush.html# I love that you are inspiring photography in your little man.
