Homemade Toys: Texture Bags

I made these texture bags when J was 13 months old.  These bags are great for any age…even infancy.  Just be careful babies don’t chew through them.  For older kids, make them into hide and seek bags by hiding objects for them to find.  These bags have been a hit for a long time and J still brings them out every once in a while to play with.

All you need to make them are sandwich bags and anything small that you can think of to put inside.  I used popcorn kernels, rice, buttons, and finger paint (that’s the red one in the pic).  Later on I made one filled with sand.

These were such a treat for him and they kept his attention for the longest time.  I did put him in the highchair when I first introduced these so that I could monitor him a bit closer to make sure that he didn’t choke on any of the pieces.  Now, I just keep them in a bag with his other toys and he plays with them whenever he wants.

Need some more play ideas for your baby?  Here’s a whole book of them.  Click the picture to find out more!
