Today, Jennifer from The Good Long Road. She is the Mom to two little boys who love messy play. I wish that she lived a bit closer, I bet J would love getting messy with these guys! Make sure you head over to her blog to see all the fun stuff she’s been up to!
And don’t you love the pic of her boy with dirt and boogers! Ha!

It seemed only appropriate in doing this guest post that I feature an activity I did with my toddler (S) that drew its inspiration from J and all of the sensory and messy play I see featured right here on Dirt and Boogers.
Since we’ve been focusing on colors a lot right now, I settled on a sensory play activity that featured different textures for every color.
We’ve got red gak, orange peels, cornmeal (with yellow water standing by), green oobleck, blue ice cubes and purple bubbles.
Recipes and materials inspired by Let’s Get Messy!
Initially, he seemed a little intimidated and mainly touched the ice cubes, but after watching me try out the other stuff he really got into it. Once he got going, S’s favorites were: Oobleck (not surprising) and Bubbles!
He couldn’t figure out blowing the bubbles himself, so I did it for him
The mixing of the oobleck and ice cubes definitely made it interesting. The oobleck became more and more firm, as it lost liquid. Eventually, the ice cube tin became more like the original oobleck tin and the oobleck became almost too hard to manipulate.
S has a baby brother, so I gave him some of the ice cubes in an egg carton. He seemed to enjoy exploring the ice cubes.
The baby also liked teething with the orange peels and watching the bubbles. Both of them laughed and squealed when the bubbles got really big, and the promise of a bubble bath was the only thing that pulled S away from the mess when it was getting close to bed time.
To see what other sensory activities and imaginative play things S and I have going on, check us out at The Good Long Road.
