Books of the Month: David

Every month I share with you the books that J can’t seem to put down.  It always seems like he has a new favorite book.

This month, it’s been all about No David!

I first read the original book when I took a children’s book class in school.  I remember having quite the discussion with my classmates about whether this book set a bad example for children or could teach them how not to behave.  I decided to go ahead and introduce it to J and see how it went.  Well, J really, really, loves it.  He talks all about how David gets in trouble and and the things David shouldn’t do.  It seems to be that it’s not causing harm, so why not allow him to read it.
If you’ve never read the book and it’s sequels, you really should give them a try.

My boys like the David books too. I love the illustrations in general, but the David character is so darn ugly! 🙂

My son’s teacher told me that the David books were very popular with his class, so I got them. I was hesitant at first too because of the ugly/scary guy. I was surprised when my 2.5year old who never sits still ASKS to have them read again and again! He knows all the words, and will read them himself!

J can read them too! I tried to upload a video, but blogger wouldn’t cooperate. I think that any book that peaks a child’s interest like that is a keeper…even if the character is a bit ugly.

We’ve borrowed them from the library and my girls seem to like them. You have to feel sorry for poor David. He is so misunderstood. lol

My preschooler class always loved this book and many could read it again and again. I think partly because they can relate to David. Many of them have done some of the things David did and what child doesn’t love a book, where the character shows his butt. To them it also shows at the end, that no matter what David is loved.
