A week of Invitations to Play: Pom poms and Tongs

Today is the last Invitation to Play I’ll share this week.  I have had a great time setting up these invitations for J and sharing them with you.  It has really inspired me to continue doing them.  I’ll absolutely be posting more Invitations to Play in the future.

This week we have had some Playdough and Pasta fun, built a Construction Site, decorated some Pumpkins, and swung a Hammer.  Today we work on fine motor skills with some Pom Poms and Tongs.

Invitations to Play: Pom Poms and Tongs

This invitation consists of:

  • Different sized pom poms
  • A mini muffin tin
  • Colored plastic cups
  • A clothes pin
  • A pair of tongs

Again, it was placed on a cookie sheet to contain everything.

He started out by using the big tongs to pick up the pom poms and placed them in the muffin tin.  Once the tin was filled up, he pretended to cook it in his kitchen.

Later on he came back to the Invitation and really practiced his fine motor skills by using the clothes pin to pick up the pom poms.

He filled up the cups with the poms and we had a little tea party.

This was so much fun for J and it really kept his attention for long periods of time throughout the day.  I will certainly be doing this again in the future.

I hope you’ve enjoyed or week of Invitations to Play!

Come on over to Facebook to see what else we’ve been up to.  It’s always and adventure around here!

I really love this activity. It is a really clever way to use those items and to promote fine motor skills. I am definitely pinning this one to do with my 3 yo.
