Water and Water Beads

Did you see my experience with water beads yesterday?  After having a few failed attempts with them, I’ve been looking for other ways of playing with water beads.  They are fabulous, and I want to figure out ways we can play with them.

So, on a whim, I threw them in the bathtub during bath time one night.
J had a lot of fun playing with them, but…. I can’t say I’ll ever do that again!  Since water beads can’t go down the drain, I spent forever scooping each little bead out of the water.  There were hundreds of beads in there!

Even though J had fun…I did not!

I didn’t get pictures because it was a spur of the moment thing.  Plus, I knew that J would love it, so I’d take pictures the next time.  Hahahaha….there will be no next time!

Considering how much fun he had, I wanted to find a way of imitating this without all the stress.
****UPDATE***** I’ve found that water beads can be lots of fun if put in the bathtub without water!

So…
I filled a large, plastic, shallow, bin with water.  I included the water beads in a bowl, gave J cups and a slotted spoon.  I dyed the water blue to add a bit more to the play.

It was fantastic!

J started off just scooping and pouring, adding water to the beads, and adding beads to the water.
Then…he got the brilliant idea of getting in the water!

And then he had to STAND in the bowl of water beads!  To tell you the truth…it looked wonderful!  I’d love to have my feet in a bowl full of these squishy beads!

The rest of the time he continued to scoop and pour.

J had so much fun with this and it is a “must do again” activity!

Having the water beads presented in this way really helped with yesterday’s problem of the bouncing, squished beads.

I threw the water beads in with my daughters during bath time one night and I’m with you, I’ll never do that again! Though, I didn’t have that bad of a time getting them out, I just used the colander and scooped them out. The certainly were getting into places I wouldn’t want them to get into again, lol!

Just linked here from another blog, hi; but something occurs to me–might it be possible to put the beads in the tub, but then invert a strainer over the drain while the water is draining? Then, hopefully, you could fish the water beads out after the water had drained. Just a tea strainer is what I’m thinking.
