Sorting Beans and Pasta

I’ve been noticing that J has gotten a bit more orderly in his play lately (lining up his cars, stacking his blocks by color, etc.), so I thought I’d try another sorting activity.

I half way expected this to be an epic failure since he was not at all interested in sorting before, but I thought we’d try again…and I’m so glad I did!

I found this plastic tray at the Dollar Store (maybe my new favorite place BTW), and I knew that I needed it. It is great for sorting and I plan on using it for 1 to 1 correspondence activities later on. Plus, you can’t beat $1!

I filled each outside compartment of the tray with three different types of pasta and three different types of beans.  I then mixed some all together in the middle.

All I did was place it in front of J and he knew exactly what to do!  It was so fun to watch!

And, he had so much fun doing it!IMG_0235

Have you done any fun sorting games with your kids?

I watched Tyler sorting out the blocks I brought when I watched him Sunday night. I handed him the tub of blocks and when I turned back around, they were all sorted by shape and color. What a great, simple activity! Good job!

That’s cool. My 2 yr old loves to sort too. I should try this.

WOW! I’ve just taken a quick peek at your home page. SOOO much inspiration here! The jars, the fruit organizer tray, the ocean bin, the rice krispies! I think I’m already in love with your blog!!
