Rubber Band Guitar for Baby

Baby E loves music and is constantly playing with his musical instruments.  So, when he showed an interest in a package of rubber bands last week, I decided to make him his own musical instrument.

This was super simple to make, and you probably have everything you need in your house right now.

All you need is a small-ish box and some rubber bands.  I used colorful ones that were all different sizes and thickness.    To make it, all you need to do is pull the rubber bands around the box, space them out evenly, and ta-da!  A Guitar!

Baby E had so much fun with this!  He loved pulling the strings and making music.

I enjoyed watching him concentrate on grasping the strings and practice his fine motor skills.

He even turned over the box and got to hear the rubber bands make different, new sounds.

He loves his rubber band guitar.  I’ve put it with the rest of his instruments and he still plays with it every single day.

Who knew a box and a few rubber bands could be so much fun!?

Come back next week, when I show you how my preschooler plays with this simple toy.

I’m sorry, but rubber bands for babies and toddlers?!?
I can’t imagine you would leave your child unsupervised with a toy like this, which you can’t guarantee when being a mom or even a babysitter.
What i’m wondering is how safe you believe this toy is.
I love the idea, but i know small kids choke on balloons and other plastic and rubber items so why not on these rubber bands?
When making this guitar please be sure your child is NOT able to loosen the rubber bands to prevent safety hazards which will seriously harm your child.

Looks like a very enjoyable and easy to make toy for kids. In response to @Cindy, I think it can be safe if those rubber bands are tight enough within the box. 🙂

The guitar is made for babies and not older ones who have the agility to move the rubber bands around the box yet. My dad played guitar and I remember making these all the time! I can imagine the babies in my class enjoying this activity with
    smiles and giggles! Thanks, Megan.
