Rice Cereal Sensory Tray

I made some Rice Crispy Treats for a friend a while ago and had a bunch of the cereal left over.  We aren’t big cereal eaters around here and I knew that it would never be eaten…so I threw it into a sensory tray for J.

I added a shovel, glass bowl , and a spray bottle filled with water.  I also hid a few lizards underneath the cereal.  He didn’t seem to care much about them, but I will do this again when he’s older and make it into an I Spy game.

This is a great sensory activity because it encompasses so many different senses.  He touched the
texture of the cereal and smelled it’s aroma.

He heard it crackle when he spayed it with water.

He also tasted it (and had quite the afternoon snack).  Don’t worry, everything was cleaned before I put together the box…I kind of figured he’d taste it.

Thanks for the idea! My son loves squirting a spray bottle and I had lots of Rice Krispies I wasn’t ever going to use. Lots of fun!

It’s kind like a edible sand box. How fun.

I love this idea – I haven’t done any sensory tubs with J or T but have a box of rice cereal and this is such a good idea.

What a great idea, this is my daughter’s favorite cereal. She would love to play in it and then eat it. I might have to try a mini-bin so that not too much would go to waste. Thanks for sharing your ideas on Monday Madness.

Thanks for linking this up to WOTT, Amanda! My first thought was “Man, I would love a bowl of rice krispies right now!” then my next thought was “This is a great idea!” Haha 🙂 I have been wary of putting obviously edible things into sensory bins because I am a bit germaphobic and have trouble mixing playing and eating. There are so many great edible ways to play that I might have to bite the bullet one of these days. It looks like your little J had a lot of fun even if he didn’t appreciate your lizards. Boogie didn’t appreciate my dragons last week either.
