Play in the Rain

It’s raining.  Your kids are running a muck or watching endless amounts of TV.  Everyone’s a bit bored and getting a case of cabin fever.  Oh, if only the rain would go away!

Break up the boredom! Go outside anyway and have some fun!

Play in the Rain

Get dressed: Put on some play clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy.  Pull out your rain boots (or shoes you don’t mind getting wet and muddy).  Find the umbrellas.  Oh, and a rain poncho is always a good idea.

Put your mind in the right place:  Don’t worry about getting wet or dirty.  Remember that this should be fun…and let go of any anxiety of being outside in the rain.

Stomp in puddles: Run and jump and make the biggest splashes you can.  I don’t mean just the kids…you do it too!  Your kids will think you’re hilarious and you’ll have fun!

Notice Nature: Listen to the rain falling on the ground, hear as it flow down the drain and  as it hits the top of the umbrella.  Watch the rain hit the ground, see the puddles form, watch it flow down the street.  Smell the smell of wet grass and fresh scents the rain brings.  Taste the raindrops falling out of the sky.  Make it a full sensory experience!

Playing in the rain can be such a fun experience that really breaks up the boredom of a rainy day!  Have you played in the rain with your kids?  What were some of your favorite games to play in the rain?

we love playing in the rain. I’m often the one that lets the side down because I will dress Goblin appropriately and then forget that I need to also wear sensible clothes. Then we have to go in early because I get cold.

I hear ya! I was totally outside still in my pajamas! I hope the neighbors don’t think I’m a crazy person.
