I’ve been knitting a bunch lately and J has gotten pretty interested in my yarn. So, I decided to tap into that and have started doing more activities involving yarn. Here’s our painting with yarn experiment.
I put a couple pieces of yarn and globs of paint in a cardboard box and let J explore
I put different weights of yarn (thick and thin) in the box to give it a bit more texture and so that he can see the difference in painting with the different types.
J is fickle when it comes to getting his hands messy. Sometimes he loves it! Other times, not so much. Today was a day that he wasn’t really into it. This is J asking to get his hands washed off.
Since he was so distracted by the paint on his hands, I added a spoon to the mix, so he could still explore without getting too messy.
The point of this activity was not to have a pretty picture when we were done…it was for a good sensory experience for J. He was able to feel the gooeyness of the paint (even though he didn’t like it), and the texture of the different types of yarn. He was also able to mix the colors together and manipulate the paint to make designs.
Guess he takes after his grandmother…..I don’t like my hands to be messy either….guess we’ve got sensory “issues” LOL! I think the spoon was a great idea!
My two year old is really funny when it comes to getting her hands dirty to. Thankfully she’s been pretty good with our art projects. But at dinner if she gets anything on her hands she has a melt down. I guess that’s good she doesn’t want to use her hands to eat any more.
This looks so much fun – J is funny with getting his hands in the paint at the moment as well – we’re getting Wash hands a lot at the moment.
Thank you for linking up to Tuesday Tots this week.
Boogie is like that, too. Sometimes mess is awesome. Sometimes, mess makes him cry. Silly boys! This is such a cool idea and I will have to try it on a messy day. Thanks for sharing at WOTT!
