Getting Organized Monday: Toy Boxes

Each Monday I’m going to be posting something that can help you organize your home. I think that being organized really helps to run a household…especially with little kids running around.

This week… Toy Rotation

I am a big  fan of having a toy rotation in place.  The basic concept is that you put away most of your child’s toys and then rotate the toys every once in a while (I do it every 2 weeks), to keep things fresh.

I have found that J plays so much more with his toys and they hold his interest longer when I rotate them around.  Plus, there are fewer toys around the house!

Kelly from The Complete Guide to Imperfect Homemaking wrote all about how she does her toy rotation.  She does it a bit different that I do, but I think it’s an interesting idea!

She has four bins of toys.  Each morning she pulls out a bin and that’s the toys the children play with that day.  The next day they play with the next bin.

I’d love to know what you think about this idea!

PS…Get ready for some Valentines Day fun from the Kid Blogger Network…starting tomorrow!

Love the idea but I am SO bad at finding a good place to put away that I will remember and can easily access. How do you do that part?

I use under the bed boxes to store toys that arn’t in use. I change them out every two weeks so I like for them to be somewhere easily accessible. I plan on doing another post all about toy rotation soon where I’ll be talking more about storage ideas.

I have always rotated toys between our house and other grandparents. That way there is always something new at everyones house and all the toys aren’t at home!

I rotate my daughter’s toys every month. I do this when she is not home Otherwise nothing will get stored. I also keep her toys in clear boxes where she can see everything. I BOUGHT HER A GIGANTIC toy box but I think that was a mistake. It seems too overwhelming for her All she ever wants to do is watch TV and play on ABC mouse.Com on her tablet. I don’t think a daily rotation is good like the picture and site link you posted. I feel like it doesn’t give them a chance to really explore the toyS. Thanks so much for all the helpful tips. I FEEL MOTIVATED TO GO REORGANIZE!
