A few months ago, I put together this simple fine motor skill activity for J. I started off by cutting up a few plastic straws and sticking a few pipe cleaners in a Styrofoam block.
J’s been big into matching things lately, so I made sure that the pipe cleaners matched the colors of the straws.
I didn’t explain the rules, but J knew exactly what to do.
He started off immediately matching the colors and threading the straws onto the pipe cleaners.
This was a fun and simple activity that is great for concentration, matching, and fine motor skills.
I wish I could say that this was a huge hit, and that J loved it, but I can’t. He only wanted to match the yellow straws and then was done. I thought I’d go ahead and share it anyway because it has the potential of being a really fun game. I’m going to present this again later to see if he will play with it again.

Plastic Pipe
Thanks for this idea! My kids loved it. We had both straws and beads. I teach 3-4 year-olds, so it was the perfect chance to review colours and numbers, as well.
You’re welcome! I’m glad you guys liked it…we did too 🙂
