Duplo Houses and Roads

I had a rare night out with a friend last week.  When I returned home, I found a little town set up in J’s playroom.  My creative husband had made a bunch of houses out of Duplos and set them up on J’s road rug.  Apparently, J asked for houses and roads, and this is what my husband came up with.

That was a week ago and the houses have been played with daily, and they are still intact! Each day they get set up a bit differently and J adds something new every time he plays with them.

He’s added several different type of cars, signs, animals, and a dinosaur even made an appearance a few days ago.

By providing open ended play experiences like his help J expand his creative mind.  He gets to stretch his imagination, problem solve, and create.

I am impressed with how much he enjoys his Duplo houses.  I wonder how much longer they’ll be around before he destroys them to make something new.

What kinds of things do your kids like to do with Duplos?

Come on over to Facebook and Pinterest to see what else we’ve been up to.

My little guys never get tired of their Duplos! They make mostly trains, robots, and guns (“shooters”). Actually, they make a lot of “sheet cakes” with “candles” to play birthday!

There is an afterschool Lego club (for the primary school kids) that takes place in my three-year-old’s classroom, and there’s always some amazing Duplo structure there on the mornings after Lego club. I hate Legos, and I even want to stay yo play withe the stuff they build (like a split-level castle).

(BTW, Amanda, you just reminded me that I, Mommy, had a total tantrum over Legos yesterday after a night of no sleep. I yelled “I hate Legos!” about three times until Bug said, “Mommy, will you stop saying that?” But I digress. I hate the small Legos!)

I love the idea of a Lego Club! I can only imagine the kinds of things a bunch of kids can come up with together. Have you seen those swoop bags for Legos? They look like the perfect thing to contain all those tiny Legos. Here’s a link. http://swoopbags.com/
