Day 28: Family Play

Picture8Playing with your child is one of the most important and fun things you can do as a parent.  With the long list of things that have to be done and places we have to be, it can be difficult to take the time to sit and play.  Plus, a lot of adults finds a child’s play boring or they are too tired at the end of a busy day to play.   I LOVE play, but do find myself getting bored on occasion. To get playing, find an activity that you do enjoy, like board games, making arts/crafts, or playing outside, and chose to do these activities with your children.  You’ll be more involved in something you enjoy and will play longer with your children.  You don’t have to play 24/7, but few minutes a day can do wonders for both you and your children.

Why getting on the floor and playing is so good for YOU!

  • It helps you really get to know your children.  You get to know all about their interests, how they problems solve, and how they perceive the world around them.
  • You’re connecting with your children which builds a stronger relationship with them.
  • You’re exchanging back-and-forth emotional signals during play, which helps build emotional development.

When you think about it…all these things in turn, are beneficial to your children!
