Books of the Month: Construction, Construction, Trucks, Trains and Cars

J loves books and always seems to have a favorite.  So each month I highlight his favorite books of that month.  Recently there’s a big theme around the house of anything with wheels.  You know cars, trucks, trains, etc.  Really, like most boys, he’s pretty fixated on them lately.  So, naturally, his favorite books are all about things that GO!

childen's books, goodnight goodnight construction site, truck driver, melvin might, I'm fast

1. Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker –  This is his hands-down, no kidding, favorite book this month.  It’s a perfect bedtime book for any child who loves construction trucks.  It’s got a great rhyming flow to it that is very calming and perfect for bedtime.

2. I’m a Truck Driver by Jonathan London – J really liked this book…a lot.  We read this before bed almost every night before we  had to return it to the library.  Then I went to visit my (almost) 3 year old nephew who loves this book so much that he has it memorized!   The book goes through several different types of trucks and what their jobs are.  It’s fun and is a keeper in my book!

3. Melvin Might? by Jon Scieszka – This is one book in a series of books called Trucktown.  The characters are wonderful and each have quite the personality.  The great thing is that there are also great lessons to be learned in these books.  Melvin Might is all about taking risks and helping friends in trouble.  Now J calls every cement truck Melvin!

4. I’m Fast by Kate & Jim McMullan – This book is all about a race between a car and a train.  But, it only really talks about the train and all it’s cars.  Honestly, this book was a bit hard to read for me.  I wanted it to rhyme or have some sort of flow to it, but it doesn’t.  But, it does have lots of onomatopoeia like “chooka chooka chooka” which kid’s love!

Please help me out!  I’m always looking for great books to introduce to J, so please leave me a comment and let me know what your children’s favorite books are!
