A few mornings ago, J asked me to make letters with food. I knew right away what we needed to make.
I went immediately to one of my favorite websites, Weelicious, and used her sugar cookie recipe. I liked that it only made one small batch, and we didn’t end up with dozens of cookies left over. This recipe made the perfect amount for us.
We made our dough…
….rolled it out….
…cut out our letters with cookie cutters….
….and laid them out on a parchment lined cookie sheet. We had some extra dough, so J chose to make a few trains and an airplane too.
After a few minutes in the oven, we had a lovely snack and practiced our letters too!
J loved his cookies…what little kid wouldn’t love a sugar cookie?
This is one of those great activities that is great for creativity and fine motor skills. Plus, kids get to practice math skills like counting and measuring. And then you have the obvious lesson of practicing letters. Such a good, well-rounded activity!
Come on over to Facebook and Instagram to see what else we’re up to!
I love Weelicious too. I’ll have to try that recipe. We need to get some alphabet cookie cutters. It’s been on my to do list.
Amazon has a ton of them, in all different shapes and sizes 🙂
Where did you get your alphabet cookie cutters? I love this idea and would love to give it a try. This looks like such a fun way to do some ABC practice. You should link it up to the 31 Days of ABCs Series. Here’s the link for Anything ABC – http://thisreadingmama.com/2013/10/01/26-ways-learn-the-abcs-a-to-z/ – There’s also linkys for each letter if you have any posts like that to share as well. We recently had lots of fun with the Letter F. I’m so glad your blog is coming up in my FB feed again as I really love it, but never get to do as much blog reading as I want. Now, I get reminded to pop over and see all the great stuff you’re doing.
They were actually a gift from a family member, but I did a quick Amazon search and there are a bunch there. Thanks for the links, I’ll have to link up!
This is such a delicious way to work with letters. I am sharing it on Pinterest.
