I hope that you’ve been enjoying this week of Invitations to Play. So far we’ve played with Pasta and Playdough, made a Construction Site, and decorated some Pumpkins. Each invitation was put out in the morning and put away in the evening. J has been allowed to play with each invitation as he pleases with very little to no direction from me.
Today I pulled out the tools and J got some practice hammering.
This Invitation had:
- Styrofoam blocks
- Colored golf tees
- Hammer (I switched out his plastic hammer for a small real one because it was easier for J to hammer with the real thing)
Once again, I contained it all on a cookie sheet.
This is a great activity for fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, dexterity, concentration, and gross motor skills. Plus you can introduce new vocabulary and practice color identification.
J had a fantastic time practicing his hammering. It was a bit tough for him, but he tried and tried, and finally succeeded. So, I guess you can say this is a good activity for building self-esteem too!
This was a fun activity for J. Even though it didn’t keep his interest for long periods of time, he did enjoy coming back to it throughout the day.
Come back tomorrow for our last Invitation to Play for the week. It’s a good one!
Come on over to Facebook or Pinterest to see what else we’re up to!
